Roberts, Troy D. Sr. (b10)

Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home
Visitation: February 12, 6pm to 8pm
Service: February 13, 2pm, Russell Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Reed and Rev. Lynn Mullins officiating. Interment will follow in Haven of Memories Cemetery in Canton, under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.

Mr. Roberts passed away in a Dallas hospital on February 09, 2007.

Troy Durward Roberts was born October 1, 1915, to the late James Berry and Sarah Belle Hay Roberts. He was born and raised in Wills Point. Troy graduated from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, TX, in 1938, with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Physics. He taught high school mathematics and science in Van from 1938 to 1941. He married Mary Lois Clark May 22, 1942, in Tyler, TX. Troy was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942, served overseas in World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He then taught physics, chemistry and mathematics at Wills Point High School from 1946 until retiring in 1978. Troy was instrumental in starting the advanced math classes in Wills Point High School.

Troy is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Lois Roberts on January 6, 2007.

He is survived by daughter, Ginger Hess and husband, Joe of Wills Point; son, Troy D. Roberts, Jr. and wife, Jeanne of O’Fallon, IL;; grandchildren, Paul J. Hess and wife, Jessica of Ft. Worth, Julie Marical and husband, Charles of Wills Point, James Roberts and wife, Robin of Minot, ND, Lisa Roberts and Laura Roberts of Sanford, FL; great-grandchildren, Blake Austin Marical and Noah Jameson Roberts; sister, Hazel Stroud of Amarillo; sister-in-law, Marcelle Roberts of Wills Point; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family visitation will be Monday evening at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of East Texas, Giddeons, American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice.
