Malone, Jimy (b19)

It is with regret and much sadness that we tell you that SSgt.Jimy Malone, WPHS Graduating Class of 2002, was killed on June 22 while serving in Taji, Iraq. He suffered fatal wounds from an improvised explosive device detonated near has vehicle, the Pentagon said Tuesday. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, out of Fort Hood, Texas.

Jimy Malone lived in Wills Point all of his life and was husband to Leslie Tisdale, the daughter of Robert Tisdale, and the granddaughter of Donald Tisdale, a former pastor at the First Baptist Church in Wills Point. He was the grandson of Ramona Malone. Jimy and Leslie recently became the parents to a baby girl. Before going into the military he worked for the WP Fire Department and had planned to resume his career when he got home.

He was also the nephew of Mike Madden, WPHS Class of 1986, and those of you who do not know this, Mike was the nephew of Thomas Ferguson, WPHS Class of 1965, killed in Viet Nam. His uncle by marriage, Mike said, "He had made his mind up that that's what he wanted to do. I mean, he was hard core Army."

For advice, Jimy turned to his principal and retired Army veteran Jim Lamb. "I knew he was going to be a success in the military, because he was always highly motivated in whatever he did," said Mr. Lamb.

The Army took Sergeant Malone on two tours to the Middle East, where he saw first hand the costs of war. He shared those experiences with students at his alma mater who were considering a military career. Now, his picture will be added to the school's wall of honor so his sacrifice will not be forgotten.*

Our sympathy and sincere respect go out to the family of Jimy Malone.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 2nd, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at FBWP.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 3rd, at 2pm at WP High School.
