Services for Mary Carolyn Burden, 73, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Wills Point, with Rev. Don Myers and Rev. Don Tisdale officiating. Burial will follow at White Rose Cemetery. Services are under direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral home in Wills Point.

Mary passed away May 25, 2008, in Dallas, TX.

Mary Carolyn Flanagan was born June 23, 1934, in Wills Point, TX, to the late Finis Clifford and Vivian Lorine Gray Flanagan. She was raised in Wills Point, where she graduated from High School in 1951. She then attended ETSU, what is now Texas A&M University in Commerce, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master degree in education. She met Jim Burden and they married August 8, 1953, in Wills Point. Mary taught 2nd grade at the Wills Point Independent School District for twenty-seven years and retired in 1994. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught the three year old class for many years and was a member of the Adult 4 Sunday School Class.

Mary is survived by her husband, Jim Burden of Wills Point; son James David Burden and wife, Debbie of Tyler, TX; daughter, Amy Deann Henson and husband, Philip of Advance, N.C.; sister, Sarah Beth Bond and husband, Gene of Wills Point; brother Finis Flanagan and wife, Jacqueline of Forney; grandchildren, Drew and Emily Henson, and James Mathew Burden; and many other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Wills Point Intermediate School Library at 307 Wingo Way, Wills Point, Texas 75169 to the attention of Principal Stacy Ellis.

Family visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday evening.
